New Initiative for Agricultural Development in Ukraine

An important coordination meeting was held with the program manager of the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), Mr. Luigi Cavestro.

The main focus was on discussing the launch of the project titled "Support Program for the Recovery of the Economic Potential of Ukraine's Agricultural Sector. Pro.UKR", which will be implemented in the Odesa region with support from AICS and CIHEAM.

This project has been jointly developed by the Italian side and specialists from the Odesa region and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, covering the Berezivka, Rozdilna, and Odesa districts.

The project's goal is to support small and medium-sized agribusiness, strengthen the positions of Ukrainian agri-food products in global markets by providing technological assistance and improving quality to meet European standards, and develop livestock farming. Additionally, the project will provide support for the development of irrigation systems in the Odesa region.

The core idea of the project is to train and establish cooperatives for processing agricultural products from small agribusinesses, while fostering stable connections between the Ukrainian and Italian markets.

Under the joint project with CIHEAM, over 9 million euros will be invested in Odesa's agro-industry.

It is worth noting that the Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, signed an agreement with CIHEAM at the end of March to launch this project.

The "Pro.UKR" project is part of broader efforts by Italy to support the recovery of Ukraine and the Odesa region, aiming to enhance the country's economic and social resilience in these challenging times.
