Promoting Sports for Individuals with Disabilities in Odessa

The city government of Odessa is actively working to create conditions for the development of physical culture and sports among people with disabilities, as well as ensuring their rehabilitation through sports. This is an essential part of the program aimed at improving the lives of veterans.

As part of the City Program “Development of Physical Culture and Sports in Odessa for 2024 – 2027”, various sporting events are being implemented for people with disabilities and veterans.

One example is the “Black Sea Cup” wheelchair basketball tournament, held in collaboration with the Odessa Basketball Federation. The competition featured the “Odessa-Basket” team alongside two teams from Kyiv.

Individuals with disabilities can also obtain memberships for access to sports facilities (clubs, sections, gyms, swimming pools). This year, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports purchased 156 memberships for the swimming pool at the “Sports Academy” and 100 memberships for the “GYM” fitness club network.

In 2024, these memberships were provided to individuals with disabilities, including war veterans. A total of 78 individuals with disabilities, among them 30 veterans, received access to the swimming pool, while 30 individuals with disabilities, including 16 veterans, were granted access to fitness clubs.

Next year, an increase in funding is planned to ensure access to sports facilities for individuals with disabilities.
