Remembering Valeriy Khait: A Legend of Odessa's Literature

On February 1, 2025, the renowned satirist Valeriy Isaakovich Khait passed away at the age of 85.

His life was deeply intertwined with Odessa, literature, and humor.

Valeriy was a prominent writer, journalist, playwright, and television host, known for:

  • serving as the vice president of the World Club of Odessa since 1990;
  • being one of the founders of the Odessa Humor Festival;
  • editing the humorous magazine "Fontan";
  • hosting the TV show "Fontan Club" on the 1+1 channel;
  • captaining legendary Odessa KVN teams;
  • being a laureate of literary awards and an editor of publications showcasing Odessa's humor;
  • initiating the establishment of the Odessa International Literary Prize named after Isaac Babel and erecting a monument to the writer.

The Odessa City Council expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the talented writer, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of the people of Odessa.
