UNESCO Mission Investigates Cultural Heritage Damage in Odesa
A UNESCO mission led by Ms. Kiara Decci Bardeski has arrived in Odesa.
The mission members are surveying cultural sites that were affected by the hostile attack on November 14.
According to Ivan Liptuga, the Director of the Department of Culture in Odesa City Council, 22 architectural monuments were damaged during the attack, of which 19 are located directly within the UNESCO heritage site.
«A special commission will convene next week to prepare damage reports for UNESCO to provide urgent emergency assistance», said Ivan Liptuga.
«UNESCO condemns the violation of international law regarding attacks on cultural heritage. We are collaborating with local authorities and experts to assess the situation and determine our next steps», Ms. Kiara Decci Bardeski noted.
