Exhibition on German Colonists in Ukraine Opens
In Regensburg, under the auspices of UNESCO, a new exhibition titled "German Heritage in Ukraine" has been unveiled.
This exhibition, brought from Odessa, features a collection of materials illustrating the lives of German colonists in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their contributions to the development of Odessa and the surrounding area.
The display is divided into three sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical part was prepared by renowned Odessa historian Alexander Surilov, while the artistic section showcases works by Odessa artist Tatiana Romanenko.
The exhibition also highlights the cooperation between cities and the assistance that Regensburg has provided to Odessa during the ongoing conflict.
The organization of this exhibition was made possible with the support of the Odessa Department of Culture and the Regensburg Department of Culture.
Among those present at the opening were Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, historians, scholars, and cultural representatives living in Germany.
Gennady Trukhanov expressed his gratitude to everyone for their support of Odessa.
"We are approaching a thousand days of war, during which we have received immense support from European countries, including Regensburg", - he stated.
The mayor also noted that during the war, Odessa has become a home for many displaced persons, just as it was in the past when various nationalities contributed to the cultural fabric of the city.
"Germans have significantly influenced the development of agriculture and infrastructure in the region. We remember this and will continue to strengthen our ties", - the mayor added.
Today, our relationship with Regensburg remains strong, just like our belief in Ukraine's victory and commitment to freedom.
