Exploring Forensic Science: A Journey for Youth
In the districts of Berezivka, Odessa, and Podillya, events were held where young people immersed themselves in the field of forensic science. This provided an opportunity for children to understand the intricacies of crime investigation, appreciate the importance of the law, and possibly choose their future profession.
During meetings organized in educational institutions and police departments, students learned that forensic experts must be skilled in crime scene examination, adept at using specialized tools, and capable of documenting and analyzing evidence. The quality of their work directly impacts the success of investigations. Professionals shared their experiences, illustrating how even minor findings could help identify criminals.
The youth were informed about the procedure followed by police at crime scenes, how evidence collection is conducted, and were introduced to the basics of fingerprinting. Many expressed interest in trying their hand at locating fingerprints at a mock crime scene.
Officers also showcased modern technology utilized in their work, including electrostatic lifting mats for detecting shoe prints, rapid tests for identifying narcotic substances, drones for assessing damaged areas, mobile DNA labs, and more.
