Clarification from the Ministry of Education on School Holidays
Recently, social media and news outlets circulated information suggesting that the government plans to shorten school holidays for students in 2025.
The press service of the Ministry of Education and Science has dismissed these claims, stating that the duration of the academic year is determined individually by each school.
They confirmed that according to the Cabinet of Ministers' decree, the academic year starts on September 2, 2024, and ends on June 30, 2025. However, these dates are merely guidelines and not mandatory.
“These dates, along with the structure of the academic year, holiday periods, and so forth, are established by the schools themselves. This is not a new practice, as such flexibility has been provided for by existing legislation for many years, even before the full-scale war,” the statement from the ministry reads.
Schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.
In making this decision, the educational councils consider:
- the overall educational workload;
- the security situation in the region;
- individual needs of students;
- the readiness of teachers.
