Commemoration of Repression Victims in Odesa

On November 1st, a day of remembrance for the victims of repression is observed in Ukraine, where people honor the deceased by lighting candles.

A solemn ceremony took place in Odesa, where candles were lit and flowers were laid at the 6th km of the Ovidiopol road.

This event served as a reminder of the victims of mass political repression in the 1930s, during which thousands of lives were lost, including many Poles.

Mayor of Odesa Hennadiy Trukhanov, Consul General of Poland in Odesa Jacek Gocłowski, as well as representatives from the Polish diaspora and community organizations participated in the event.

The mayor introduced the newly appointed consul to the history of this tragic site and spoke about the efforts made prior to the full-scale invasion to honor the memory of repression victims and document the crimes of the Soviet regime.

During the dialogue, it was noted that in Poland, there is awareness of this place and appreciation for the respect that Odesans show towards the memory.

Mr. Gocłowski emphasized that the consulate, the diaspora, and Poland would provide support and assistance to implement the project after Ukraine's victory.
