Italian Parliamentarians Visit Odesa
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with a delegation of Italian parliamentarians led by Deputy Speaker Giorgio Mule. The Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, also attended the meeting.
During the dialogue, it was highlighted that Italy is sponsoring the restoration of Odesa. The parliamentarians came to personally explore the city, its cultural landmarks, and assess the extent of the destruction, aiming to determine the specific resources needed for effective recovery.
They also discussed potential areas for investment, particularly in culture. The Italians believe in the importance of remembering history, regardless of its complexities.
«History evolves, and we must grow with it, accepting all its moments. Many operas in Italy were written during fascist times, and buildings were constructed then. But that does not mean we should avoid them or demolish them. Art belongs to the world!» - expressed Mr. Mule.
The Italian deputies expressed solidarity with the mayor and the people of Odesa in preserving the heritage that has made Odesa a UNESCO literary city.
