Open Badminton Tournament in Odesa

On November 10, 2024, the open badminton cup organized by the Odesa regional organization of the FST «Ukraine» was held in the gym of the Comprehensive Children's and Youth Sports School No. 5.

The competition was dedicated to the memory of the distinguished Odesa sports figure, the honored worker of physical culture and sports of Ukraine, Mykola Barabash.

This tournament, held in Odesa for the second time, became a true celebration of sports for young badminton enthusiasts.

A total of 22 participants took part in the tournament.

The competition was held in the «mixed» category: a mixed pair of a boy and a girl.

The winners and prizewinners in the junior category were:

1st place - Mykola Cherniyenko / Veronika Simova;

2nd place - Lev Talpa / Darya Popova;

3rd place - Mykola Tsvetus / Anastasia Savitska.

In the boys' category, the places were distributed as follows:

1st place - Pavlo Vasilyoglo / Darya Boris;

2nd place - Tymofiy Hlushyn / Vladyslava Kymlyk;

3rd place - Serhiy Mukhin / Olena Morozova.

The athletes were prepared by coaches Vladimir Bilous, Darya Sibiryakova, and Valeriy Karpov.

Note

Mykola Martynovych Barabash was a prominent specialist in physical culture and sports, who helped train numerous athletes representing our country at both domestic and international competitions.

Mykola Barabash served as the vice-president of the Badminton Federation of Ukraine, was a member of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, and led the Odesa regional organization of the FST «Ukraine» for 30 years.

His talent as an organizer was recognized with awards from the European and World Badminton Federations.

A master of sports in archery and badminton, an honored coach of Ukraine, an international referee, and an honored worker of physical culture and sports of Ukraine.
