Honoring Healthcare Workers Who Gave Their Lives
In the fight for human lives, nothing could stop them except the cessation of their hearts.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
On July 10, Ukraine celebrates the first Day of Remembrance for Fallen Healthcare Workers. This initiative comes from the team of the Order of St. Panteleimon and was launched this year to honor the memory of medical personnel who lost their lives during the full-scale war.
Healthcare workers on the frontlines and in frontline areas saved our soldiers under bombardment. Those in the rear worked during air alerts, in operating rooms without electricity, and in bomb shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of both children and adults in Ukraine. Unfortunately, many of them lost their lives. And the number of such healthcare workers is in the hundreds.
According to the Order of St. Panteleimon, over three years of the great war, Russia has killed at least five hundred Ukrainian healthcare workers. These include doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics. They became targets of the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms, on the streets, at home, and on the way to work.
To preserve the memory of each individual who perished, the Order of St. Panteleimon is implementing the project “Memorial Light,” aimed at honoring medics who sacrificed their lives while fulfilling their professional duties. Within this project, with the participation of the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the deceased medical personnel is being collected and systematized.
If you know about a fallen medic on the front lines or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send information to the email address: medlib@library.gov.ua
Please include in the subject line: “Memorial Light.”
Today, July 10, at 14:00, a signal will sound in hospitals and medical institutions across Ukraine – the sound of a heart stopping. Following that, there will be a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen medics.
Let us remember. Let us give thanks. Let us honor.
Eternal and luminous memory to the fallen medical workers.
