New Developments in Cancer Screening in Odesa
Last week, healthcare facilities in Odesa organized a preventive cancer screening initiative through blood testing. This event was supported by the Odesa City Council's Department of Health and the local Health Center.
On that day, all interested individuals could freely assess their hemoglobin levels and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) in the primary healthcare centers and diagnostic laboratories, both by self-referral and electronic referrals.
As a result of the event, 815 individuals sought cancer screening at clinical diagnostic laboratories. There were 235 cases of abnormal ESR: 226 above normal and 9 below normal. Additionally, 214 patients had abnormal hemoglobin levels: 165 below normal and 49 above normal. These indicators are crucial for early detection of potential cancer-related changes.
Patients with identified deviations from normal values were advised to consult their family doctors for more detailed examinations to rule out oncological conditions.
