Renovation of Odessa Infectious Disease Hospital: A New Phase

The Odessa City Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital is currently undergoing significant renovation work.

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, inspected the progress of the ongoing capital repairs and reconstruction of the hospital.

Currently, restoration work is being carried out on two historic buildings of the hospital - the Valikhovsky and administrative buildings. The repairs are part of the Ukraine Recovery Program, implemented by the government in collaboration with the European Investment Bank.

Furthermore, renovation of the children's wing built in 1974 is nearing completion. This work is funded by the Odessa city budget. Upon completion, comfortable semi-boxed rooms equipped with a reverse ventilation system will be established to prevent the spread of hospital-acquired infections.

Special attention is given to ensuring accessibility during the renovation. Entrances are equipped with convenient ramps according to the requirements of current regulations. For the first time, elevators have been installed in the building to facilitate the movement of patients and staff.

“Soon, the infectious disease hospital will have a fully updated modern department that meets all contemporary requirements. This will enhance Odessa's capability to combat infectious diseases. We continue to improve the conditions in the city's medical facilities,” said Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

In 2025, reconstruction of the bacteriological laboratory building is also planned at the infectious disease hospital.

The large-scale phased reconstruction of the city clinical infectious disease hospital began in 2015 with the construction of a boxed unit for patients with droplet infections. Since then, a modern reception area, three new boxed departments, a state-of-the-art PCR laboratory, oxygen stations, and cryo-cylinders have been established in the hospital.

In 2024, with the support of UNICEF, an artesian well was commissioned, and a pump room was established to provide autonomous water supply to the facility. Solar panels have been installed on three hospital buildings.
