Healthcare Facilities in Odesa: Innovative Solutions for Energy Independence
In Odesa, there are 33 municipal healthcare institutions providing urgent, planned, rehabilitative, and palliative medical services to the population, military personnel, and internally displaced citizens.
Due to the challenges posed by the ongoing war, a primary objective has become ensuring the autonomy and energy independence of medical facilities.
All medical institutions are equipped with diesel and gasoline generators of various capacities in case of power outages. Currently, there are 152 generators in medical facilities, with 63 being high-capacity units. In the absence of centralized electricity, the high-capacity generators in city hospitals that provide round-the-clock medical care automatically activate, ensuring the operation of medical equipment.
Seven healthcare facilities are equipped with solar power stations with energy storage devices.
Additionally, 14 gas, diesel, and solid-fuel boiler houses are available in medical institutions, providing autonomous heating. Preparatory work is also underway in some hospitals for the installation of modular boilers using alternative fuels under a Memorandum with the World Health Organization's Bureau in Ukraine.
On the premises of four city hospitals, with financial support from UNICEF, artesian wells and drinking water fountains have been established, ensuring autonomous water supply. The medical institutions are stocked with technical and drinking water.
