Women's Movement in Ukraine: New Horizons
Simultaneously with the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv, the conference titled «Women's Movement: New Horizons» is being held in Odessa, marking the 140th anniversary of the women's movement in the country.
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, welcomed attendees and emphasized the significant role of modern women in military, political, and social life. He also acknowledged their contribution to preserving the cultural traditions of our city and thanked them for their tireless efforts for Odessa's welfare.
Sabina Frazer Gunesh, head of the UN Women Ukraine, spoke about the support for the movement from the United Nations and highlighted the importance of collaboration:
"We see that women in Ukraine are actively pursuing their opportunities. For instance, last year women founded every second new business in the country. They play critical roles, taking over from men who are currently at the front. Approximately 60,000 women are also serving in the Armed Forces."
The event brought together historians, activists, military personnel, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender experts.
Key topics discussed included the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odessa, the challenges and achievements of women in contemporary society, as well as leadership and the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war.
