New Legislation to Enhance Anti-Corruption Agencies
The law of Ukraine «On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding Strengthening the Powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office» has come into effect.
This was reported by the official publication of the Verkhovna Rada «Voice of Ukraine».
The Verkhovna Rada approved in principle and overall the bill introduced by President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at restoring the independence of NABU and SAP.
On the same day, the head of state signed the corresponding law.
The version of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, adopted by parliament on July 22, contained potential risks for the effective functioning of the anti-corruption infrastructure in Ukraine, particularly regarding the independence of NABU and SAP.
Following the situation around the adoption of the law on the powers of NABU and SAP, decision-making procedures in the «Servant of the People» party faction will be improved, and a working group is already in operation.
