Street Lighting Updates in Odessa: Current Status and Challenges
Experts from the municipal enterprise «Odesmskvitlo» regularly perform work to update the street lighting in the city, including streets, parks, and squares. They also address emergency situations.
Regular inspections of street lighting objects, such as poles, distribution cabinets, and lamps, are carried out to identify faulty or vandalized elements. The electricians engage in cable rewiring, replacing old lamps, pruning trees, and resolving emergency issues.
In the first 11 months of 2024, specialists replaced 2390 lamps and 380 brackets, in addition to replacing 75003 meters of cable networks.
Moreover, workers pruned 7632 trees that interfere with the electrical networks.
Specialists also replaced several street lighting poles.
Often, poles become unusable due to various emergencies, such as bad weather or traffic accidents. Replacing poles is a labor-intensive process that requires special equipment.
Since the beginning of 2024, specialists have replaced 64 emergency poles, 10 of which were damaged due to traffic accidents.
In October this year, a vandalism incident was recorded on the Health Route, resulting in damage to 10 poles. Automatic switches and covers were stolen, and cables were damaged.
