Updates to the Affordable Medicines Program in Ukraine

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has announced changes to the list of medications and medical devices eligible for reimbursement. This allows patients to obtain medicines free of charge or with partial payment via electronic prescriptions, under the Medical Guarantee Program.

The order approving the new list of medications takes effect on September 30.

The program has added 85 new medications, which include:

  • 3 medications for pregnant women and new mothers;
  • 6 medications for thyroid diseases;
  • 8 medications for glaucoma;
  • 5 medications for children's diseases;
  • 61 medications for other chronic conditions, including cardiovascular and mental disorders.

The updated list includes active substances such as indapamide, latanoprost, levothyroxine, methyldopa, timolol, torasemide, and folic acid.

Now, the reimbursement program covers 705 items, including:

  • 595 medications;
  • 38 insulin preparations;
  • 30 combined medications;
  • 42 test strips for measuring glucose levels.

The program covers cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, mental disorders, epilepsy, treatment for pregnant women, and much more.

How to utilize the program?

  • Obtain an electronic prescription from your doctor.
  • Visit a pharmacy marked as “Affordable Medicines Available.”
  • Receive medications free of charge or with a partial payment.

Note that starting from July 1, 2025, the “Affordable Medicines” program is expected to be available in all pharmacies across Ukraine.
