Odessa Conference for World Diabetes Day
The Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, took part in a city conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.
According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is among the top three diseases leading to disability and death. Early detection significantly reduces the risks of complications.
At the event, alongside medical professionals, parents and children affected by diabetes were present, receiving comprehensive support. The conference also addressed advancements in modern diabetes care.
«Despite the ongoing war, Odessa continues to work on improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about this disease. We are ready to implement new solutions and technologies to enhance the lives of our children and promote preventive measures among the youth,» said the Mayor of Odessa.
In Odessa, over 30,000 adults and children live with diabetes. Nearly 5,000 patients have insulin-dependent diabetes and receive insulin therapy, including more than 400 children.
- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications under the state program "Affordable Medicines".
- The «Diabetes School» operates at the Reznik Children's Center.
- As part of the City Health Program, insulin pumps and supplies have been purchased for children with type 1 diabetes.
- Children receive continuous glucose monitoring systems at no cost.
- Free campaigns are conducted to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and early detection.
- A project has been launched to enhance teachers' knowledge about diabetes.
