Honoring Humanitarian Efforts in Odesa
Marilouise Beck, a German politician and director of the Centre for Liberal Modernity, was awarded the Honorary Distinction from the Mayor of Odesa «ODESA» for her outstanding humanitarian efforts, supporting Odesa residents during the war and fostering international cooperation.
At her initiative, the project for the memorial «Against Oblivion» was developed on Lustdorf Road – a site where over 25,000 people, mainly of Jewish and Romani descent, were burned alive in 1941.
A grant of one million euros was secured for its implementation. However, due to the war, the works had to be postponed, and the funds redirected towards the city’s humanitarian needs.
As a result, Odesa received crucial resources: transport, special equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other vital assets.
The city authorities express their gratitude for the support and hope to realize pre-war projects and continue collaboration for Odesa’s development.
