Zelensky's Legislative Proposals on Martial Law

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted new bills to the Parliament concerning the extension of martial law and mobilization for another 90 days. If approved, these measures will be in effect until August 6, 2025.

The respective bills No. 13172 and No. 13173 have been registered on the official website of the Parliament.

Ukraine extends martial law and mobilization

As of the morning of April 15, both documents have been forwarded to the relevant Committee of the Parliament dealing with national security, defense, and intelligence issues. In the texts of the bills, the head of state proposes to approve the relevant presidential decrees for a 90-day extension of martial law and mobilization.

According to the draft law on the continuation of general mobilization (No. 13173), this law is expected to come into force on May 9, 2025, after its announcement through the media.

The draft law regarding the extension of martial law (No. 13172) is anticipated to take effect “from the day of its publication” after being approved by the Parliament and signed by the President.

What is known about the extension of mobilization and martial law in Ukraine

On February 5, the President signed laws extending mobilization and martial law until May 9, 2025.

On November 6, Zelensky signed laws extending mobilization and martial law until February 7, 2025.

Previously, the Parliament approved a law endorsing the President's decree to extend martial law in Ukraine from November 10 for an additional 90 days.
