Summer Planting in Odesa: New Floral Displays

The employees of the municipal enterprise «Miskzelentrest» have begun the active planting of summer flowers throughout the city. The floral arrangements will include salvias, geraniums, begonias, petunias, ageratum, tagetes, and chlorophytum.

The first summer flowers have already enhanced parts of the Birzha Square and the flowerbeds near the Primorsky District Administration, replacing the spring flowers. This year, around 350,000 summer flowers are planned to be planted.

According to the municipal enterprise «Miskzelentrest», summer flowers will be planted in all districts of the city, taking the place of spring flowers that have already wilted.

Today, the planters also planted 72 shrubs.
Perennial plants such as junipers, hibiscus, and broom are being planted with a closed root system (a clump of soil) to ensure better survival in the urban environment.

The young plants have beautified the median strip on Heroes of Heaven Avenue and Prince Yaroslav the Wise Avenue.

All floral seedlings (summer and spring flowers), as well as flowers for vertical landscaping (100-150 hanging pots), are grown in their greenhouses in the «Rose» section. Each year, approximately 1 million plants (200-250 thousand spring flowers, 250 thousand pot flowering plants, and about 500 thousand other seedlings) and around 11 thousand ornamental trees are cultivated here.
Every year, the planters plant about 40 thousand perennial plants (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, euonymus, etc.) grown in the enterprise's greenhouses.
Starting in September, the greenhouses are prepared for the next year. On 5 hectares of land in the «Rose» section, there are 4 thousand square meters of greenhouse complex, 2 thousand square meters of hotbeds, and a utility yard. This entire farm is managed by 29 planters and 3 engineering and technical staff.
Traditionally, the first spring flowers (daisies, violas, forget-me-nots, and celandine) adorn Odesa in early April. Later, they are replaced by summer flowers: salvias, petunias, primroses, tagetes, and ageratum.
Additionally, the municipal enterprise «Miskzelentrest» oversees more than 547.71 hectares of land: 16 parks, 79 squares, 7 boulevards, and 122 other green spaces.
