New Cardiology Unit Opens in Odessa
At the beginning of the year, a new cardiology and cardiac surgery department was inaugurated at Odessa City Clinical Hospital No. 11.
Providing high-quality medical care for patients with cardiovascular diseases is a vital focus for this multidisciplinary hospital.
The new department can offer cardiac surgical services to around 1000 patients annually. Medical services are provided free of charge under the state medical guarantee program.
The establishment of a cardiac surgery service allows for the introduction of transplantation practices.
Based on the cardiology and cardiac surgery department, the first surgical procedure for the implantation of a dual-chamber pacemaker has already been successfully performed.
As reported by the head of the department, Natalia Mozhey, the operation was conducted on an 80-year-old woman suffering from complete atrioventricular block. The intervention was carried out based on life-saving indications in accordance with international and national clinical guidelines. The patient’s condition has significantly improved, and she is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a few days.
Such surgeries represent a significant advance in the development of specialized cardiac surgical care in Odessa.
