Barrier-Free Space for the Filatov Institute
Ophthalmologists have approached the Barrier-Free Council in Odesa with a proposal to support the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy in implementing barrier-free solutions on the institution's premises. This includes creating pedestrian zones with tactile paving, developing accessible navigation, and providing information in Braille – all of which are critically important for visually impaired patients.
«I will bring this issue to the attention of the deputies, as the Filatov Institute is not just a medical facility, but a research center with a history of over a century, under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its contribution to the development of ophthalmology is recognized not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. We will definitely find ways to assist», emphasized Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
The outpatient clinic of the Institute serves about 500 patients daily, including civilians, children, people with disabilities, and military personnel receiving high-quality care.
Previously, work was done on the section of French Boulevard near the facility to repair sidewalks and install traffic lights.
«The next logical step should be to create a fully-fledged barrier-free environment that meets the status of the institution and the needs of its patients», noted the Mayor's advisor on barrier-free issues, Alexey Morozov.
