Free Preventive Health Initiatives in Odesa
To enhance the effectiveness of measures aimed at prevention, early detection, and timely treatment of diseases, under the City Target Program «Health» for 2024-2026, the Odesa Health Department has launched free preventive health initiatives in medical facilities across Odesa.
In 2024, at the initiative of the Health Department, 29 Health Days for adults and children were organized.
The primary goal of these events is to raise awareness among residents about risk factors and prevention of the most common diseases, as well as to facilitate early detection for timely treatment and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
During these events, city doctors conducted free preventive examinations, including ophthalmological, dental, dermatological with dermatoscopy, otolaryngological, gynecological with cytological examination, urological exams and PSA tests, mammological and mammographic assessments, ECG, ultrasound, and fluorography. They also measured blood pressure, determined blood glucose levels and body mass index, checked visual and auditory acuity, conducted laboratory tests, and provided consultations.
This year, a total of 40,911 individuals underwent preventive examinations in Odesa's medical facilities, including 37,384 adults and 3,527 children. Cancer screenings reached 13,378 individuals, comprising 3,903 men and 9,475 women.
All patients with identified health issues were referred to specialized professionals. Timely diagnosis is a crucial factor for successful treatment.
Additionally, this year, Odesa's medical institutions actively participated in initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of mental health, as well as its prevention and treatment. As part of the national mental health program «How are you?», initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska, a Month of Mental Health Awareness was held, during which approximately 1,000 Odesans received psychological support.
